How To Deposit Money Into Chime From Your Bank

In the era of digital banking, one name that has made its mark is Chime.

While its many benefits are easy to see, there may be some confusion about how to transfer money from a traditional bank account to Chime.

This article will walk you through the various ways you can deposit money into your Chime account—whether you're looking for the fastest method, the most cost-effective, or the most convenient.

Chime, a leading digital banking platform, offers users multiple options to move funds, ensuring flexibility for every need.

Let's dive in.

Method 1: Instant Transfer via Debit Card

One of the quickest ways to move funds into your Chime account is through an instant transfer using a debit card.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Chime app on your mobile device.
  2. Navigate to the "Move Money" section.
  3. Select "Add Funds Instantly."
  4. Link your debit card by entering the card details.
  5. Once linked, you can transfer money instantly to your Chime account.

Important Note: Instant transfers incur a 1.75% fee of the transfer amount. Be sure to weigh speed versus cost before choosing this method.

Method 2: Standard Bank Account Transfer (ACH Transfer)

If you prefer a fee-free method and can wait a few days, a standard bank transfer is your best bet.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Log into your Chime app on your smartphone.
  2. Go to the "Move Money" section and select "Transfers."
  3. Link your external bank account by entering your username and password. Chime encrypts this information to ensure security.
  4. Once linked, you can schedule a transfer from your external account to your Chime account.

Timing: Transfers typically take up to five business days to complete, but they are free of charge.

Tip: While Chime itself does not impose transfer limits, your external bank may have its own restrictions and fees, so check with them if you're moving large amounts.

Method 3: Direct Deposit

A convenient and efficient option for adding funds to your Chime account is direct deposit.

Set up direct deposit by providing your employer or benefits provider with your Chime account number and routing number (available in the app under "Move Money").

Advantages:

  • Get paid up to two days early compared to traditional banks.
  • No fees for receiving direct deposits.

Method 4: Mobile Check Deposit

If you have a physical check, Chime allows you to deposit it directly through the app.

Steps to deposit a check:

  1. Open the Chime app and tap "Move Money."
  2. Select "Mobile Check Deposit."
  3. Take photos of the front and back of your check.

Note: This feature is typically unlocked after you receive your first direct deposit into your Chime account.

Method 5: Cash Deposit at Retail Locations

Chime also makes it easy to deposit cash at over 90,000 retail locations, including:

  • Walgreens
  • CVS
  • 7-Eleven
  • Walmart
  • Rite Aid

How to deposit cash:

  • Use the Chime app to locate a participating retailer.
  • Visit the store and ask the cashier to deposit cash into your Chime account.

Fees:

  • Free at Walgreens.
  • Other retailers may charge a small fee.

Limits:

  • Up to $1,000 per day.
  • Up to $10,000 per month.

Bonus: Access Your Pay Early with Chime's MyPay Feature

Chime's MyPay feature allows eligible users to access up to $500 of their paycheck early, helping you cover expenses without waiting for payday.

This feature adds even more flexibility to your financial management with Chime.

Final Thoughts

No matter your preferred method, Chime offers a flexible range of options to move money into your account—from instant transfers (for a fee) to free ACH transfers and even cash deposits at retail stores.

Choose the method that best fits your needs based on cost, speed, and convenience.

Happy banking with Chime!
