How To Transfer From Fidelity To Public 2022

When it comes to investing apps, Fidelity is hard to beat. They have very few fees, and a wide range of robust, high-quality features for mobile investing.

However, when it comes to these apps, there's always a new contender with innovative features that you just can't help but want to try.

Public is a mobile brokerage that takes the investing app experience and marries it with the addicting design of a social media platform. With Public, you can engage with "social investing", where you can look at what moves other users are making, and buy into the same spread.

The coolest edge Public has is that new investors can interact with and learn from seasoned investors directly by following them on the social media side.

Alongside Public's other neat features, there's many reasons why you might want to check them out, and move your assets from Fidelity into Public. When transferring between all these apps, it's easy to get confused, and we're here to help. Today, we're going to show you how to transfer from Fidelity to Public, step by step.

How To Transfer From Fidelity To Public

Transferring into Public is pretty simple.

You'll need to grab some account info from your Fidelity account tab, sign up for Public, and navigate their menus to transfer stocks into the new account.

Transferring From Fidelity To Public:

  1. Locate Fidelity Account Info
  2. Sign Up For Public
  3. Transfer Your Stocks To Public

Let's get started!

1. Locate Your Fidelity Account Info

When transferring assets into Public, we'll need to find and write down a couple details in order to link your Fidelity account to Public.

Public will need to know the following:

  • Type of Brokerage Account (Personal/Individual/Taxable, Roth IRA, traditional IRA, etc)
  • Your Fidelity Account Number

At the time of writing, Public may not be accepting direct transfers from 401K and Retirement accounts.

Here's how to get both inside your Fidelity app:

  1. Log in to Fidelity
  2. In the "Accounts & Trade" tab, select "Account Positions"
  3. You'll see your different accounts and their information here
  4. Take note which type of account you have (It will be listed as the name)
  5. Beneath your account type is your 9-digit account number. Write this down in a secure manner.

If you have multiple accounts with assets you want to move into Public, you'll have to write down the information for each separate account.

2. Sign Up For Public

You have the option to transfer some or all of your assets to your new Public account. If you transfer everything over, please be advised that your account with Fidelity will close.

Public's transfers are pretty helpful, as they don't incur any taxes, and the process is really fast.

It will take a few business days for your transfer to complete, which is normal.

Fidelity doesn't currently charge any transfer fees, so this is good news too!
