How To Transfer From PayPal To Uphold

Uphold supports funding your account through an ACH transfer or through the use of a credit/debit card. Therefore, transferring directly from PayPal to Uphold isn't possible today. Perhaps in the future that capability will be added.

However, you can still move funds from PayPal to Uphold. Those steps are listed below!

  1. Create an Uphold Account
  2. Transfer PayPal Funds To Bank
  3. Link Bank Account To Uphold and Transfer Funds
  4. Purchase Crypto in Uphold

Each of these steps have a few steps of their own. Let's review them now!

1. Create an Uphold Account

Creating an Uphold account is actually pretty easy. You can finish the process from your phone on your couch!

Download the app from the app store or Google Play to get started. In order to create an account, you will need to supply personal information such as name, email, phone, and address.

You'll also need to accept their terms and conditions. Throughout this process, you will receive a confirmation email from Uphold, which you will need to open and validate.

Now you'll sign up for 2-factor authentication, which Uphold uses for extra security for all its user accounts. "2FA" provides added safety by requiring you to confirm inside the authenticator app it's actually you signing into Uphold. Uphold uses Authy for 2FA.

You'll need to download Authy's app, signing up using your phone number (this takes just a second or so). Please note, the Authy app is a separate app that needs to be downloaded. A number of crypto platforms are now requiring this added layer of security.

Finally, once your Uphold account info is all together, you'll need to verify your identity. Fortunately, this process is pretty quick. You'll need to confirm your current address, and upload a photo of a valid ID like your driver's license, as well as a selfie.

2. Transfer from PayPal to your Bank

PayPal is one of the top money management apps in the world, and it's easy to see why. Transferring your funds to your bank is incredibly simple. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open the PayPal app on your phone.
  2. Tap your PayPal balance.
  3.  At the bottom of the screen, tap "Transfer," and then tap "Transfer Money."
  4. Tap the bank account that you want to transfer money to and then tap "Next."
  5. Enter the amount of money you want to transfer and then tap "Next."
  6. Confirm that you want to complete this transaction by tapping "Transfer $X Now."

This transfer can take between 1-3 business days.

If you need to link a bank account to PayPal, you can do so by clicking on the wallet icon in the bottom navigation menu in the app. In the "Banks and cards" section, you will see a + icon. Tap the icon to add a new account. You will simply search for your bank and login to select an account to link.

3. Link Bank Account To Uphold

With an Uphold account created and funds moved to your bank, you are ready for the next step: linking your bank account to Uphold.

You can actually transfer funds into Uphold with either an ACH transfer using your bank account directly or through a debit/credit card. We'll show both options here.
(If you happened to do this in step 1, skip on ahead to the last step!)

It is important to note that if you choose to link a debit/credit card, you'll be subject to a 3.99% fee for every transfer. Transferring funds from your bank account is free and without any fees. With this in mind, we generally recommend linking a bank account rather than a card.

Linking To A Bank Account

When linking a bank account to Uphold, you must ensure that your name on both Uphold and your bank account match in order for the link to work.

Here are the steps to link your account:

  1. Click on the bottom right of your mobile app, or the left side of your web browser "Web Wallet".
  2. Choose "Linked Accounts"
  3. Next to "Bank", click the + sign on the right
  4. Select US Dollar as your bank currency
  5. Click Continue inside of Plaid
  6. Select your bank from the list
  7. Login using your bank login info inside of Plaid, or in your bank's website (on the web, you'll be redirected automatically).
  8. Finish the link by selecting your bank account.

After transferring funds into your new Uphold account, you can trade crypto instantly. But please note that your funds are subject to a 65 day cooling period. This means those funds will take 65 days to settle before you'll be able to move them out of Uphold.

Linking To A Credit/Debit Card

Here are the steps to link a credit/debit card:

On Mobile:

  1. Click the bottom right corner of the app
  2. Tap Linked Accounts
  3. Click the + symbol on the top right
  4. Select "Credit or Debit Card"
  5. Enter your card information and select your currency
  6. Finish by clicking "Add Credit/Debit Card"

On Your Web Wallet:

  1. Inside the Transact Panel on the right, choose "From"
  2. Click the + symbol to the right of "Credit or Debit Cards"
  3. Enter your card info and select your currency
  4. Select "Add Card"

Now you'll be able to select the funding source you've set up when buying your crypto.

4. Purchase Crypto Assets In Uphold

With a linked funding source, you are ready to purchase crypto. Follow the steps below to start building your portfolio:

On Mobile:

  1. Choose the Transact symbol at the bottom of the app
  2. Select "From", choosing your bank or credit/debit card
  3. Enter the amount you'd like to spend
  4. Tap "To" and choose the asset you want to buy
  5. Select "Preview Deposit" (entering your CVV code if using a card)
  6. Press Confirm to finalize

On Web Wallet:

  1. In the Transact Panel on the right, select "From"
  2. Choose your bank account or credit/debit card
  3. Enter the amount you'd like to spend
  4. Click "To", choosing the asset you'd like to purchase
  5. Click "Preview Deposit"
  6. Enter your CVV code
  7. Accept the transaction terms
  8. Press "Confirm"

And that completes this process!
